Antique 1800’s Large Brass Wall Chargers Pair Neo Classical Portraits Deities. For your consideration is a stunning pair of large, very ornate wall chargers / platters. Hand chased and embossed brass featuring idealized profile portraits of ancient mythological god and goddess, Greek or Roman pantheon. From the helmets they are wearing we may assume that most likely the male head is depicting Poseidon / Neptune (the sea conch helmet and the small trident above), while the female might be Athena / Minerva (the warrior’s helmet and the griffin above). Extremely well elaborated with very fine details altogether, including the lavish acanthus leaves, Devil’s masks / heads and lion’s heads garlands around the borders. The hoops on the back will allow them to be displayed on the wall. There is a scratched by hand number 1752454, barely visible at the back of both chargers, possibly from a previous collector’s inventory. Period items in the Neo-Classical taste, circa 1830’s-40’s. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE FOR MORE PHOTOS! 25″ diameter x 2.5″. Weighs about 7 lbs. Condition: Very Good overall. Wear, commensurate with age – shallow dents here and there especially around the inner edge (the part that touches the wall); a minor whole on Neptune’s beard from multiple polishing and cleaning through the centuries, unobtrusive, hardly noticeable, mostly from the back.
