ANTI QUE 1 8 0 0′ s CHALKWARE LAR GE VASE / VESSE L / JUG PAIR. This Pair of UNUSUAL Vases came out of the 3rd Story Attic of the Masonic Temple, in Union City Michigan. Though no one knew what they may have been used for, who made them or why. How old they may actually be I have no idea, just that they must be a minimum of 140 years old. The Very Large Masonic building dates to the 1860’s, and they feasibly were made before they ended up there. The Handles on each side are of a Body that is Bent Over Kneeling, with the Hands Over the Head and Standing 5. I’ve tried countless hours Googling everything I could possibly think of to find out what significance they might have, and a better Era idea they may have been made in.. Each stands approximately 10″ High, and 9″ at there Widest Point of Diameter. There Top openings are 3-1/2″ in Diameter at their Widest Width, with their Base Diameter of 3-3/4 “. Each weighs approximately 4 Pounds. I’ve Titled them Chalkware, not knowing for certain if a type of Plaster would have been a better fit. When taped with a wooden spoon they make a very distinct ringing sound, so not being a expert in these matters they appear for that reason to have been Fired. I’m sure the random Yellow Fine Lines appearing on them (plainly seen in my photos) has some significance, I just don’t know what. Also in my 7th photo I show a Distinctive Worm Tail appearing quite Prominently in the bottom of the Vessels, which many years ago I was told it had some significance. Lastly my intention was to list only one of the pair, sadly while taking my photos my grandson knocked one over, breaking one of the handles shown in my 1st photo. I have saved the pieces thinking that anyone interested enough in them, could have that Vase repaired by someone better qualified than myself. Hopefully someone out there can and will find these Beautifully Created Creatures of a Significant Value, and take them off my hands. I would be more than happy to provide any additional photos requested, and or any additional information I might possibly be able to provide.
