This chinese bronze Excellent oriental work of art that is perfect to be used as a decorative item in your home. In good overall condition but the verdigris bronze is slightly rubbed/marked in places – please study photos. Size: Approximately Height 20CM. Pair Bronze Foo Dogs Statues. Chinese guardian lions, also called Fu (Foo) Lions, lions of Buddha, or sometimes stone lions (, Pinyin: Shísh) in Chinese art[1], are a common representation of the lion in pre-modern China, which is believed to have powerful mythic protective powers that has traditionally stood in front of Chinese Imperial palaces, temples, emperors’ tombs, government offices, and the homes of government officials and the wealthy from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD), until the end of the empire in 1911. Lions of Fo are always created in pairs, with the male playing with a ball and the female with a cub. They occur in many types of Chinese pottery and in Western imitations[2]. Pairs of Chinese guardian lions, also called Chinese stone lions are still common decorative and symbolic elements at the entrances to restaurants, hotels, supermarkets and other structures, with one sitting on each side of the entrance, in China and in other places around the world where the Chinese people have immigrated and settled, especially in local Chinatowns. In Tibet, the guardian lion is known as a Snow Lion and similar to Japanese shishi. In Myanmar they are called Chinthe and gave their name to the World War II Chindit soldiers. Antique Spanish Revival Tudor Gothic Wall Sconces Wrought Iron Light Pair Set

A set of three wonderful larger-scale wrought iron sconces from the late 1920s or early 1930s. There is a pair of longer ones, plus one slightly shorter that matches. Perfect for any Spanish Revival, Tudor, Gothic, or Storybook interior, or just anywhere you want some romance and beauty! These were professionally restored by someone not too long ago. At that time, it appears that they replaced the sockets and wiring, and added the 3.25″ shade holders on top of what I think were the original 2.25″ shade holders. I presume so that they could use larger shades with them, perhaps the ones shown? In any case, they are ready to glow for another 100 years. Condition: in addition to the above notes about modification, there is some slight variation in patina between the three fixtures (as one would expect from handmade lights that are 90ish years old). The shorter sconce back plates have a slightly warmer tone than the other two; please see photos. The shades are of indeterminate age; they are heavy cast glass, with many bubbles inclusive (see photos for details). This usually indicates a newer shade (reproduction), but in my 20 years experience as an antique lighting dealer, I’ve never seen these particular shades reproduced. They may be’vintage’ reproductions, perhaps having been made in the 70s, 80s, or 90s, or perhaps they are antique as well; its difficult to tell. In any case, they suit the character of the fixtures, and look lovely. The larger ones measure 29.5 inches high overall, including the shade. The smaller one measures 24.5 inches high overall, including the shade. The larger top backplates are generously sized and will cover a modern junction box! Bulbs and mounting hardware are not included. Please use the close-up feature to fully examine the details and condition of this vintage item in the photos.
